Year End Celebrations at DeSales

Year End Celebrations at DeSales

The Class of 2020 at DeSales Catholic School will commemorate the end of elementary school with a Graduation Ceremony on June 25th.  While the ceremony will be rich in tradition it will look different amidst the ongoing pandemic.  This year’s graduation will be held in the side yard of DeSales with students and their immediate family in cars. This graduation will be filled with tradition, family and faith for the students and their families.   A production of the ceremony will be shown at a later date on LCTV.

Graduation gowns and gifts were delivered to each students by their teachers on Friday, June 12, 2020.  These gifts bags also contained custom face masks, hand clappers and a window marker for students to decorate their cars.   Graduation will kick off with a Zoom Award ceremony.  Breakfast will be delivered to each of the students homes for the morning time ceremony.  Class of 2020 Salutatorian Alexia Kilroy, the daughter of Brooke and the late Mark Kilroy, will address her classmates via Zoom at the virtual breakfast.  When asked what she would speak about, Alexia reflectively summed up her years at DeSales “I am so thankful for my time at DeSales.  With its warm, welcoming, family, and open atmosphere, I always felt at home and loved.  The teachers, administration, staff and community taught me how to be a young adult, and so many life lessons that I will always remember, and take on my journey in the future.” Alexia will attend Lockport High School in September. 

The top scholar in the Class of 2020 is Sydney Mosher the daughter Bernie and Heather Mosher of Lockport. While considering what she will touch on in her Valedictory Address, Sydney said “My speech will reflect on the journey that has brought us to this day.  We have shared so many memories together. “Sydney will attend the Academy of Sacred Heart in the fall.  

The Graduation Mass guest speaker will be DeSales Catholic School alumna, Ms. Caroline Woods, DeSales Catholic School Class of ’97. Caroline is NYC based and is a Business Reporter/Anchor for CNN.  

     Principal Karen Rahill reflected on the current class of DeSales’ eighth graders, “It has been a pleasure watching the academic and athletic accomplishments of our 8th grade class this year.  They are ready, willing and more than able to continue their journey as high school students.  I am incredibly proud of everything that they have accomplished at DeSales and wish them happiness and success in all that they do.”

The twenty one members of the DeSales Class of 2020 will move on to success in public and private high schools across the region, including Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Cardinal O’Hara, Lockport High School, Canisius High School, Newfane, Mount St. Mary Academy, , St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, and Niagara Wheatfield High School.

DeSales Announces Third Quarter Academic Achievements

 

Lockport NY-  DeSales Catholic School would like to recognize the following middle school students for their scholastic achievement in the third marking period of the 2019-20 school year. 

Students earning First Honors, with a third quarter average of 95 or higher were Grade 8: Camryn Becken, Josephine Kerr, Alexia Kilroy and Sydney Mosher.  Grade 7:  Ava Achtyl, Morgan Case, Cameron Gilson, Jillian Knuutila, Aubree Parker, Isabella Pearl, Dan Rahill and Isabella Watson. Grade 6: Edwin Fritz V, Haley Karaszewski, Torryn Kilroy, Dominic Leo, Mia Masters, Gabriel McQueen, Ryann Morris, Naomi Schreiner, Colin Sodaro and Alexandra Thurston

Second Honors, for students with academic averages between 90 and 94.9:  Grade 8:  Elaina Benedict, Riley Doty, Isabella Drago, Eve Jones, Richard Keppler, Olivia Klumpp, Hunter Lilley and Olivia Rongo.   Grade 7: Patrick Frank, Catherine Kearney, Lydia Lamont and Benjamin Trotter. Grade 6: Arden Anterline, Kimberly Betsch, Noah Bohlman, Emma Buzak, Nathan Couturier, Colton Doty, Jamesyn Fritton, Margaret Galley, Karoline Griffin, Parker, Karaszewski, Angelo    Morello, Graham Schultz, Brendan Sheldon, Nathan Tomaino and Andrew Walker.

Merit Honors, for students with an academic average between 85 and 89.9:  Grade 8: Jenna Chesko, Henry Genewick, Kyle Glena, Tyler Glena and Gabriella Gonzalez.  Grade 7: Gavin Rignel, Tanner Schultz and Tyler Tomaino. Grade 6: Olivia Bidak, Carson Ciemny, Katherine Firkins, Kenidy Kaminski, Keenan Linnan, Laura Treis and Brandon Weipert.

DeSales Expands Preschool

DeSales Expands Preschool

DeSales Catholic School in Lockport is excited to announce that its Preschool is expanding! Beginning in the Fall 2020, DeSales will offer a Blended Full Day Preschool program for three and four- year olds. Children who are turn three by December 1, 2020 are eligible for this program. 

Mrs. Staci Pike has been named the teacher for the Blended Preschool Program at DeSales. Mrs. Pike started teaching in the DeSales Preschool in August of 2019.  She has NYS Certification in elementary education for PreK-6th grade with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Buffalo State College.

DeSales Principal Karen Rahill said the expanded preschool program was developed to meet demand. "Our existing full-day four-year old program was filled by the end of February.  We are adding this program to meet the ever-changing needs of families working or living in the surrounding area," Rahill shared.

The new Blended program will join DeSales other preschool programs including; a part-time program for three-year olds, a part-time program for four-years olds, and a full day four-year old program.
