Community liaisons from Unyts recently brought a variety of educational programs to students at DeSales Catholic School. The primary goal of this program was to provide students with information about the lifesaving benefits of donation, to motivate students to initiate a family discussion about organ and tissue donation, and to answer questions and counter common misconceptions about donation.
In 2014, Unyts started a partnership with 6 pilot Catholic schools in the Western New York area in support of their STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math) education initiative. In their collaboration with DeSales, Unyts ran a 6 module based program for students offering a unique STREAM experience. This program introduced students to organ, eye, tissue and blood donation. Students learned about donation as well as how to keep their bodies healthy through proper nutrition and exercise. Students also had the opportunity to hear from someone whose life has been directly impacted by donation. At the end of the 6 weeks, students will be ask to create individual or group presentations to share with teachers, families, and Unyts staff to demonstrate the knowledge they obtained.
