Many years ago, the Mullane family established a scholarship at DeSales in the name of their father Jack, a graduate of DeSales Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame, and a longtime supporter of Catholic education. This annual generous gift is awarded to a student who will be attending a Catholic high school. In sponsoring a DeSales graduate through this scholarship, Jack Mullane’s memory and generous spirit are honored.  After reviewing this year’s applicants, the Mullane family has chosen to give two $2,000 awards this year. “The Mullane family does so much for DeSales and Catholic education.  These scholarships are just one example of their commitment and generosity,” Principal Karen Rahill said of the annual award.

Current DeSales 8th grader, Mason Boggs is one of this year’s Mullane Family Scholarship recipients. Mason is a member of the DeSales soccer team, has been a cast member in the school musical and a part of the school choir, Cantors for Christ.  Mason’s classmates describe him as nice, funny, athletic and smart.

Mason said of his experience attending DeSales Catholic School "I have loved my experience here and truly enjoy having spirituality and faith as part of my education."

Mason is the son of Nicole Biro and Bryce Boggs of Youngstown.  Mason will continue his education in the fall at St. Mary’s of Lancaster.

Fellow DeSales 8th Grader, Mila DiGiacomo was also named as a Mullane Family Scholarship recipient. Mila has been a valued member of the DeSales Running Club, the National Junior Honor Society, Cantors for Christ and the Boston Committee. Mila’s classmates recognize her kind, genuine nature, work ethic and sense of humor.

Mila reflected on this scholarship recognition saying, “It is such an honor to be selected for this scholarship. I am excited to attend high school in the fall!”

Mila is the daughter of Heather and Victor DiGiacomo of Middleport.  She will attend the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart for high school in the fall.

Principal Rahill commented on the scholarship selection “I am proud of all Mason and Mila have accomplished at DeSales and know they are both well-prepared for the challenges of high school. I look forward to following their future successes.”
