Kilroy Named DeSales’ Geography Bee Champion

Students in grades 5 through 8 at DeSales Catholic School took part in the National Geographic Bee.  The field was narrowed down to 8 finalists who faced off in a question and answer round. 8th grader Alexia Kilroy successfully answered a question about Shanghai, China to win the title of DeSales’ National Geography Bee Champion. 5th grader, Kendris Bell earned the 1st runner up position in the competition.   Kilroy will move onto the second stage of the competition where she will take a computer generated test to qualify for the State competition in Albany, which will be held in March.  The competition at DeSales was facilitated by middle school teacher Mrs. Lori Asher.

The National Geographic Bee is an annual competition organized by the National Geographic Society, designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world.  Approximately 10,000 schools across the U.S. compete in the Bee.

The champions from each state competition will qualify to compete in the National Geographic Bee Championship to be held at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.

DeSales is Eastern Niagara County’s only Catholic School, serving 300 students in Preschool through Eighth grade.  For more information on the DeSales contact the DeSales Admissions Office at 716-433-6422 ext 407.
