DeSales Students Complete DARE Program
Thirty-nine 5th Grade students at DeSales Catholic School were recognized for successfully completing the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education program. D.A.R.E. instruction during the 10-week course was provided by Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Hetrick.
DeSales students used role play and group discussions to learn how to resist peer pressure. These lessons further taught students how to avoid involvement in drugs, and how to live drug-free lives. Christine Sheehan, DeSales 5th grade teacher, added that "the students and families of DeSales Catholic School are very fortunate that the D.A.R.E. program continues to be an integral part of the educational offerings at our school.”
Students completed the program by composing an essay sharing the impact of D.A.R.E. in their lives, and taking a written test on the material covered. At the graduation ceremony held at DeSales, Natalie Killion and Elizabeth Swartz were honored for the superior quality of their essays, and were given the privilege of presenting them aloud to their classmates, parents, grandparents, and DeSales faculty and staff in attendance.
DeSales is Eastern Niagara County’s only Catholic elementary school, enrolling students of all faiths in grades PreK – 8. For more information call DeSales at 433-4870, visit www.desalescatholicschool.org or attend Open House on January 31, 2016 from 12-2pm.
