Mrs. Peg Merrill is best known in our halls now as the Middle School English teacher but long before she was a teacher here, she was a student. Perhaps it is her history here that makes tradition such an important part of her classroom experience. Mrs. Merrill’s female 8th grade students enjoy, “Ladies who Lunch” during their final year at DeSales. This lunch is held monthly in Mrs. Merrill’s classroom. The students agree on a theme and each bring in something to share. These lunches facilitate a bond between the students. This tradition was started back in 2005. Mrs. Merrill credits her students for coming up with the idea. Other traditions include School of Rock (we have a whole group of young students who love Lynyrd Skynyrd thanks to this game) and the Boston Board. The tradition Mrs. Merrill is most proud of is the prayer her classes say together each time they meet. “The prayers focuses the students and sends the message of our school,” says Mrs. Merrill. One of her students wrote the following about their beloved teacher, “ We are the new generation to change the world. It’s teachers like Mrs. Merrill that educate us and remind us that we can do anything if we trust in God.”
