In Mrs. Ann Kraatz’s 1st grade classroom they “spellercise!”  Spellercise is a combination of spelling and exercise.  This is a  fun, active way to learn and reinforce spelling and high frequency words. Children put hands in the air for tall letters, hands on hips for small letters and hands on knees for letters that fall to spell out words. Principal Sister Carol Ann commented on  the teaching method saying “ When you use the mind and body together,  you get the best  learning.” The students  really enjoy “spellercise!”  Great job 1st grade!

1st grader Molly did a great job explaining this fun activity to us, view her video explanation here.
