Involvement Opportunities

The commitment of our parents and caregivers is a big reason for the success of DeSales.  Get involved by attending the monthly Home School Association Meetings, by chairing or joining a Board or HSA Standing committee (see the Committee descriptions below), by sharing your ideas with teachers and administrators, or by volunteering your time as a Classroom Parent. As an added incentive, every parent attending our H.S.A. meetings is entered in a monthly prize drawing... just for showing up!

Home School Association

Each year the H.S.A. sponsors two major fundraising events: a Cash Raffle Cocktail Party in the Fall, and an Auction Dinner in the Spring. Parent Participation in these fundraisers is essential, since a portion of the funds raised by the H.S.A. is pledged to the school's operating budget. The success of these events has a direct impact on all of our families! Without these fundraising efforts, DeSales tuition rates would rise dramatically! Get involved with your school - it truly makes a difference in your child's life!

H.S.A. Standing Committees

This annual fundraiser has something for everyone! Families help to keep tuition costs down by selling books of Auction raffle tickets. Help is also needed to organize mailings from home, Set-up before the event, and clean up afterwards. And most importantly, everyone can help gather gifts for bidding in the Live, Silent and Chance Auctions. After all the prep work is done, parents are expected to invite friends and relatives to the Auction for a very entertaining evening! This event provides much-needed funds for our school...and is also a whole lot of fun!

Each $100 raffle ticket purchased is a chance to win big cash prizes, including the grand prize of $5,000!  Each ticket also provides admission for two adults to a fun party where the lucky winners are announced. Committee members serve as team captains to encourage the sale of more tickets, promote the fundraiser, and help with set-up on the night of the party. All DeSales families are asked to support the event by purchasing at least one ticket for themselves, or by selling one ticket to friends or relatives.

Everyone loves Easter candy, so why not buy yours from DeSales? Orders for delicious Niagara chocolates are placed in the months preceding Easter. This committee always needs help with collecting the orders and helping with candy pick-up at school just in time for Easter recess.

Give the students a whole day of fun at the end of the school year.  Volunteers organize and staff this huge June event. The HSA provides funds for a day of indoor and outdoor activities at school for the students in grades 1-5, as well as poolside fun at Lockport Country Club for the Middle School students.

Help us give our graduates a memorable send off in June. Led by parents of 6th and 7th grade students, this committee organizes the annual pre-graduation breakfast at school, and a reception held at church after the graduation Mass. It's a day filled with tradition and memories for our 8th graders!

Kick off the year with a great gathering of DeSales families on the Wednesday before Labor Day. The members of this committee plan a hot dog picnic on the school lawn to welcome all our students and their families back for another school year! Many hands make light work, so join in the fun!

Help to plan a spooky night of fun for our families. Help is needed to organize costume contests, decorations, and treats for the kids.

Help us help our classroom teachers!  Room parents assist teachers with holiday parties, special classroom projects, and coordinate each homeroom's contribution to the spring Auction.

Show our teachers how much we appreciate them! The H.S.A. provides gifts to our faculty members for birthdays, Christmas, and at the beginning and end of each school year.  This committee is active year round, and will often needs baked goods from home, or occasional helpers during the school day.

Here's a committee that helps DeSales all year long! Parents and friends send their general mills box tops, Campbell's soup labels, as well as used fax and printer ink cartridges, old cell phones and other small electronics into school. The T to C committee collects and redeems these items for school supplies and cash to purchase classroom necessities. Join in to help with sorting, counting and shipping throughout the year.

This free service provides gently used school uniforms for our students. Members of this committee help keep the donated items sorted and organized, and work to fill requests for uniform pieces as they come in throughout the year.

As a committee member, you would be asked to give approximately one hour per month for committee meetings.  Your role would be to provide advice and direction so that the board can better manage and direct the school.
