Students at DeSales Catholic had the opportunity to observe the Lockport’s night sky from the comfort of their classroom. The Challenger Learning Center’s Mobile Planetarium visited the Catholic elementary this week.  Students in preschool through grade 8 had the opportunity to see classroom lessons brought to life. Each class chose the presentation they wanted to see. For example 4th graders viewed "Native American Sky Stories," Preschool participated in "Songs of the Sky," and 7th graders enjoyed "The Lives of Stars." Planetarium instruction was led by Challenger Learning Center’s Paul Krupinski.

This planetarium program looks for objects you could find in the skies of Lockport if you go outside after dark.  Students were challenged to find the bright stars of the night sky, constellations, the current moon phase, plus planets like Jupiter or Venus.

This STEM learning opportunity was made possible by a grant from the Grigg Lewis Foundation and a donation from a DeSales High School Alumni.
