Author Visit Kicks off PARP at DeSales
DeSales Catholic School welcomed children’s author Tim O’Shei on Tuesday, February 7th as part of Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) month. Tim engaged students with his personal stories on how writing can help you achieve your dreams. At age 7, Tim wanted to be superman, at age 10 the life of a rockstar appealed to him and finally as he grew, he thought for sure he wanted to be a baseball player. As a writer, Tim has been able to achieve his childhood dreams interviewing Christopher Reeves, The Beach Boys and many professional athletes.
After the general writing session, students in 5th through 8th grade broke out into a small sessions with O’Shei. In this writer’s workshop students had the opportunity to Skype with Halo Award winning author, Allie Boyer in California. Allie and Tim are working on a book together and students were able to offer insight on the book’s development. They were invited to ask Allie questions about her writing and her work saving endangered orangutans.
PARP continues at DeSales with a Family Literacy Night on March 9th, Daily Trivia Challenge and the Scholastic Book Fair.
