DeSales Library Now Online

Families now have access to the DeSales school library online, through iPAC - internet Public Access Catalog.  Thanks to a grant from a generous supporter, our library's card catalog was computerized in 2008, and all lending materials are now checked in and out using a bar code scanner.

This online catalog allows users to search our library’s holdings in a variety of ways:

Quick Search allows you to search using keyword, subject, title, author and several additional options including “sounds like.”This is a phonetic search tool which is helpful with hard to spell search terms and for children that are learning to spell.

Easy Search allows you to explore the library using the methods similar to popular search engines.

Advanced Search options are also available.

Once a desired item is located, details regarding the book, including its availability in the library, can be displayed.

Students can use the web-based catalog to conduct research at home and create a “bookbag”of desired items. The bookbag’s contents can be printed and brought to the library to help locate items much more quickly.  Parents can also search the catalog with their children at home, to help select materials to borrow on Library Day.The catalog is off-line during the summer months, but is reactivated when school resumes in the fall.

Bishop Kmiec Issues Pastoral Letter

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec has written a pastoral letter called "Visioning for the Future" for our Catholic Schools.   It is the second pastoral letter he has written since becoming bishop of Buffalo five years ago. The release of the pastoral letter coincides with the issuance of a report on the initial phase of a strategic planning process that objectively assesses the current experiences and status of elementary schools in the diocese. Support DeSales While You Do Your Shopping!

SCRIP CERTIFICATES MAKE GREAT GIFTS!!!             USE THEM FOR YOUR OWN PURCHASES, TOO!!

When you purchase Scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used like cash. Scrip is purchased at face value and each retailer gives DeSales a discount, anywhere from 2% to 25% of the face value of the certificate.

New retailers have been added to the list and some denominations have changed so please take a look at our new scrip order form! If you have questions about Scrip, contact: Kathy Good at 438-0317 or kathleengood@yahoo.com

Scrip is a great idea for:

            • employee gifts
            • organization awards
            • the person who’s hard to shop for
            • your own personal use

As a special convenience,Tops Supermarket Gift Cards are available in the DeSales Main office, in increments of $20 and $50. Gift cards are valid for purchases at any Tops Friendly Market, and DeSales receives a 5% donation for every card we sell.

Growing In Faith

The strong enrollment at DeSales prompted a major renovation and expansion effort at our school beginning in 2005.  Click here for more detailed information about our Classroom and Chapel Expansion project.  DeSales is grateful to Bob Burke and Kevin McKenna at RB Mac Construction, and Matt McIntyre of Oakhurst Development for their skill and hard work.  The project wrapped up in the summer of 2007 with the completion of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel and the three bonus classrooms on the ground floor. Bishop Kmiec joined our students for a mass of dedication on October 3, 2007. You can click here to see photos from this celebration.  Thank you to all those who generously supported our capital campaign.

Make Your Voice Heard

The New York State Catholic Bishops have formed a statewide Catholic Advocacy Network of concerned Catholics who want to put their faith into action. Together, we can speak out in support of the poor and vulnerable, the sick and elderly, the unborn, children and families. DeSales encourages you to join this network. There is no cost. The easiest way to join is to go to www.nyscatholic.org to sign up. Or you can send your name, address, phone number and email address to Catholic Advocacy Network, New York State Catholic Conference, 465 State Street, Albany, NY 12203-1004. Be sure to mention you are from the Diocese of Buffalo.
